Edo Guber: Agbomhere Champions Okpebholo As Best candidate

As Edo state prepares for the September 21 off-cycle governorship election, the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the All-Progressives Congress (APC) Dr. Blessing Agbomhere has described the APC gubernatorial candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo as a silent achiever who has made vast contributions to the world of business and entrepreneurship.

According to the South-South Zonal Organizing Secretary of the APC, the party’s guber candidate has also contributed in the process of creating wealth among Nigerians and building organizations that have made huge economic impact especially in the lives of the Edo people in particular.

Agbomhere made the assertion in response to some comments accusing the Partys candidate of not being vocal enough in his quest to become governor of the state describing Senator Okpebholo as a quintessential public administrator, who is different from the regular Nigerian politician, that promises more than they can actually deliver.

He argued that the APC candidate is not deliberately avoiding the media, but rather insisted that Okpebholo is not known to be the overtly ‘boisterous’ type but a focused gentleman who is committed to transforming the fortunes of Edo state when elected into office.

Meanwhile, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has given crucial updates on election preparations.

He informed that there will be signing of peace accord which will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Benin City. 'To assess the deployment and upload of BVAS results, the agency will conduct a mock accreditation exercise on Tuesday, September 10.'

The goal of the Peace accord signing, which was organized in collaboration with the National Peace Committee, is to guarantee a peaceful and credible electoral process.

“After consultation with the National Peace Committee under the leadership of our respected former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar GCFR, the signing of the Peace Accord for the Edo State governorship election will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2024, in Benin City. Supported by eminent members of the Peace Committee, the occasion will be presided over by the Chairman, General Abdulsalami Abubakar.

“You may notice that unlike the previous peace accords signed a few days before the election, it was decided to do so early this time around to enable the Peace Committee to monitor compliance with the code voluntarily signed by parties, candidates and other critical players in the electoral process such as INEC and the security agencies during the remaining days to the election.

“This will add further weight to the peace accord beyond mere ceremony as demanded by many observers and even some of the political actors themselves,” Yakubu stated.

He pointed out that INEC has achieved success in completing 10 out of 13 planned activities with only 22 days until the election on September 21, 2024.
